In all societies, we see the powerful and the powerless.

These states of mind exist in human beings. They are not physical systems until we build a system around them.

Working in law enforcement, I got to see community policing up close. Sometimes it worked to abate crime. Other times, it was ineffective in terms of what leaders wanted it to accomplish.

But there was one question I consistently had:

Are we creating barriers to keep people out, or to keep people in?

Because spirit, or life itself, cannot be contained.

We can punish.

We can build bridges, communities, systems, walls—even religion.

And spirit, or life itself, will find its way around all of them.

The person who thinks about murder, or thinks about harming someone, may one day do it physically. But it was his desire that brought him there.

It was no different for the rich man.

Each of us uses something we cannot contain or control—desire itself—to build wealth, destruction, government, families, institutions, and entire worlds.

It happens first in the hearts of people.

In the hearts of men.

And when we love, those attachments that stem from the heart begin to dissipate.

What we once worshiped becomes something that simply is.

What we once feared becomes something that simply is.

We begin to live inside a powerful mind—a mind that allows us to focus, create, and mature.

What is matured in the dark becomes light.

The two work as one, though they are not what they appear to be.

This is what I understand as the law of nature, the law of God:

Whatever is loved is brought to pass.

Love is not merely a feeling.

Love is peace.

Love is nurturing.

Love is desire itself.

And desire, when it is loved rather than feared, begins to build.

It helps you build the life you want.

It helps you build the life you are capable of creating.

What you love, you move toward.

What you continually move toward, you eventually begin to build.

And what you build becomes the world you live in.
