Life starts as life.
Someone experiences that life and tells a story about it. Voila—now you have something in them. They have developed, and now you are in it.
As humans, this is what we do. We pull people into our stories, and in doing so, we can get further and further away from God.
You can’t live without God, or without awareness itself, but you can pretend you do. You can deny that you are living in God itself. You can do this for so long that you begin to believe you are a story about life rather than the experience of life itself.
And people will help you do this.
They want to hear your story. They encourage you to share your story. All of that is possible. But none of it is life itself.
Be careful of stories.
They grab our attention. They give us allegory, something we can relate to. But when a story becomes so large that it demands power, praise, and someone to witness it, we’ve created a life from a life that never needed anything additional.
So we let go.
We let go of our stories, and our stories about our stories. We return to direct experience—to the living movement underneath the stories we keep telling ourselves.
You don’t have to pretend the stories aren’t there.
You only have to know that you are powerful enough to withstand them, and powerful enough to overcome them.
Life was already here.
You don’t have to become the story of it to be alive.
