What Happens to You When You Hurt People

When people hurt you, they are revealing you.

Nothing is really happening beyond this.

They are revealing what has already been made possible within you through the gift of God and the gift of direct experience.

That direct experience—the “I”—is the way to a God who does not merely live on this planet or inside any religion, but in all things, connecting you directly to all things.

So when you hurt another person, you owe a debt.

You have given the thing you call “hurt” your attention. And by failing to see it clearly, then projecting it onto someone else, you have built a wall around it. It is inside this wall that most people eventually drown.

You pay the price the moment you do it.

You bring something that is already happening in consciousness back into consciousness. You do not pull it out of consciousness, or out of God, so much as experience it—and then give it to someone else to experience.

This is the nature of giving and receiving.

So when you ask for forgiveness, the debt begins to move.

It begins to relinquish its authority over you. Through love and humility, the wall that was once cement begins to flow.

The other person’s forgiveness is immaterial. You cannot force forgiveness from another person.

You simply ask.

And you can ask even when the other person is not physically in the room.

Oddly, what we discover is that the people who have hurt us, we also hurt by creating a wall around the event and calling that wall “them.”

That wall is what helps you hurt other people the way you were hurt.

That is the mountain of pride.

But it does not actually exist.

The life you faced has already returned. It is already over. Yet through pride, anger, praise, and attention, we gave it more power than it deserved.

So the solution is simple:

Wipe their tears today, or prepare to drown in your own tomorrow.

Break an innocent heart, and watch how quickly yours breaks.

Because life connects us.

There is nothing else.
