Is This Who You Want to Be?

Keep your focus on yourself and you will begin to see life moving back and forth.

It moves through you.
It moves through everything.

The trees.
The sky.
The wind.
The body.
Movement itself.

The same intelligence that moves through the world is moving through you. It moves through your words, your thoughts, your feelings, and your behaviors.

These are not separate things.

They are one movement.

And this movement crosses a kind of threshold, a veil, that those who keep their eyes fixed only on the outside world may never see, because they are looking for the movement after it has already taken form.

Before you speak, there is speaking.

Before you move, there is already movement.

Before a thought becomes a thought, something is already moving toward it.

It moves as one life.

This life, this intelligence, has been given many names. Spirit. Consciousness. God. Nature. Life itself.

But whatever name we give it, it is still one thing.

It is not divided.

It is not judged.

Not yet.

Because before the human mind arrives, there is no one standing outside of life saying, This is good. This is bad. This should be different. This should not be happening.

There is simply what is happening.

It is only when the human being arrives with the capacity to judge, interpret, explain, and assign meaning that this movement begins to take shape.

We name it.

We define it.

We turn it into an identity.

And yet beneath all of that, the movement continues.

Life continues to move through us.

The invitation is not to control that movement, but to trust it, to allow life to move through us as it moves through everything else.

To speak when there is speaking.

To move when there is movement.

To feel what is there without immediately turning it into a story about who we are.

Because then something extraordinary happens.

The human being develops the ability to look back at the movement.

To witness what has already passed through.

To look at our words, our actions, our reactions, our choices and ask:

Is this who I want to be?

Is this how I want to behave?

This is where consciousness becomes something more than simply experiencing life.

We do not have to stop the movement.

We do not have to deny it.

We do not even have to condemn it.

We can simply witness it.

And in witnessing it, we gain the freedom to choose what we do with what has moved through us.

Life moves through everything.

But only the human being seems capable of turning around and asking what that movement means, and who we want to become because of it.
