The Power of Experience

One experience, one story, can change your life as you know it forever.

One experience of being violated can change the way you view life. One experience of being cast aside can alter the way you see yourself and the world around you. It changes you. It changes your body chemistry, your perception, your understanding, even the way your brain responds to what comes next.

Experience is powerful.

This is the power of persuasion, the power of the images we carry, the power of what the mind learns and holds onto.

Consider something simple. Once, I heard a story about a snake crawling through the pipes and coming out of a toilet. It was just a story, an image placed into the mind. Yet now, almost every time I walk into the bathroom in the middle of the night, my mind creates the image of that snake. I turn on the light.

It seems simple.

But it reveals something profound.

The mind does not simply record experience. It creates a world from experience. It takes what we encounter and builds a perception of reality around it. A single moment can shape the way we move through countless moments that follow.

This is not a flaw in us.

It is part of being human.

Experience is meant to change us. It is meant to open us to our humanity, to deepen our compassion, and to teach us how to love. The question is not whether life will leave an impression upon us. It will.

The question is whether we will become imprisoned by the impressions we carry.

Will we allow our experiences to become walls that separate us from life, or will we allow them to become doorways into greater understanding?

That is why we are here.

Not to hide from experience. Not to escape our humanity. Not to become untouched by the world.

We are here to love.

To live.

To experience fully.

And to become honest about what has happened, what we have carried, and what we have allowed those experiences to teach us.

Because every experience, even the painful ones, can become an invitation to return to the love that was here all along.
