He chases after her for warmth, not rejection—but rejection is what he meets when he does not inhabit himself, when he does not claim his own mirror.
She exposes him, and he cannot stand it. So he runs from her, only to run further from himself.
He seeks younger women for the illusion of duality: a face that is charming today and hollow the next. This is the fractured logic of addiction—what the body clings to one moment, it rejects the next.
But those who love and accept Christ will understand something else entirely. They will know what it means to love. They will know what it means to surrender.
